In the northeastern corner of America, New England encompasses six different states. Rich in history, it was at the forefront of the fight for independence and is awash with scenic wonders, from wild coastlines and shimmering lakes to forest-clad mountains and quaint seaside towns.
This carefully crafted tour takes you on a journey through four of New England’s states. In Massachusetts, you’ll delve into history on a sightseeing tour of Boston and visit laid-back Cape Cod with its vibrant towns and windswept dunes. You’ll discover the timeless allure of Martha's Vineyard, see historic homes in Rhode Island and immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of New Hampshire’s White Mountains. Then as your holiday draws to a close on the rugged coast of Maine, there’s an opportunity to sample New England’s delicious seafood with a traditional steaming-hot clambake.

You'll get to know Boston this morning on a sightseeing tour with a Local Guide. We'll stop at several highlights on the city's Freedom Trail, famous sites and locations that tell the story of the American Revolution and beyond. You'll also visit Beacon Hill, the city's charming historic district and at lunchtime, we'll make our way to the vibrant area around Quincy Market, where you'll have time for a bite to eat at one of the fabulous food stalls.
Later, we'll head to Falmouth on Cape Cod.
Meals included: BToday we will travel along the beautiful Cape Cod National Seashore, a protected 40-mile stretch of pristine coastline. We'll stop at Chatham, one of the Cape's most beautiful towns and home to the historic Chatham Lighthouse which dates back to the early 19th century. We'll then make our way to Provincetown at the tip of the Cape, where you'll find beautiful beaches and an eclectic mix of art galleries, shops, restaurants and bars. It's the perfect place to enjoy a spot for lunch if you're feeling hungry.
Meals included: BYou'll take a ferry to Martha's Vineyard this morning. This delightful island is where celebrities and presidents, past and present, choose to take their holidays. We'll take a tour of the island's six small towns, which include elegant Edgartown and Oak Bluffs, with its colourful gingerbread cottages. We'll then continue our journey to the state of Rhode Island.
Meals included: BOn today's visit to Newport, you'll see why this scenic coastal town became the playground of the rich and famous, from the hugely wealthy families of the 'Gilded Age' to more recently the Kennedys. You'll stroll through the narrow streets and cobblestone paths of the Old Town and travel along Ocean Drive, taking in the area's outstanding natural beauty. We'll also drive along 'Millionaires Row' to see some of the homes built by America's wealthiest families in the late 19th century including Rosecliff, where 'The Great Gatsby' and 'True Lies' were filmed. If you wish, you can join an optional visit to The Breakers, the most opulent mansion of them all. It was built by the Vanderbilt family and is a 70-room Italian Renaissance-style palazzo.
The rest of the day is yours to explore Newport at leisure. In the heart of the town, Brick Marketplace with its array of unique shops and restaurants is a fabulous place to visit.
Meals included: BLeaving Rhode Island today, we'll first head to the Atlantic seaport of New Bedford. The town inspired Herman Melville to write Moby Dick and we'll visit the New Bedford Whaling Museum to learn about the history of the American whaling industry. Its fascinating exhibits include massive whale skeletons and a half-scale replica of a whaling ship.
Later, you can sit back and relax as we continue our journey to Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire.
Meals included: BToday, we'll venture into New Hampshire's glorious White Mountains. Our drive takes us along the scenic Kancamagus Highway, a beautiful stretch of road that winds its way past mountains, rivers and waterfalls. We're making our way to the Franconia Notch State Park at the heart of the White Mountain National Forest. It's an area of stunning natural beauty with endless opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors.
Meals included: BBefore leaving New Hampshire, we'll visit the Castle in the Clouds, an Arts and Crafts-style mansion in a beautiful setting overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee and the surrounding mountains.
Next, our journey takes us east to coastal Maine. In the old shipbuilding town of Kennebunkport, you'll see historic mansions once owned by wealthy sea captains before we head to today's final destination, Ogunquit. At this charming beach town in southern Maine, you'll find quaint shops and lively restaurants.
At dinner this evening we'll get a real flavour for the region with a traditional New England lobster bake.
Meals included: B,DWe leave Maine this morning and travel south to Boston. On the way. We'll stop in Cambridge, where you will have free time to browse Harvard Square's quirky shops and bookstores and enjoy lunch if you wish. We'll then visit the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum which traces the life and times of America's 35th president through film and a series of interactive exhibits.
Later, we'll drive to the airport in good time for our flight home.
