There are many things to love about New Zealand, and here we share our top five reasons for choosing a holiday to this remarkable country.
New Zealand is, without a doubt, one of the most spectacular countries in the World. Made up of two main islands and lots of smaller ones, its stunning landscape features everything from deep-blue fjords and glistening glaciers, to snow-capped peaks and bubbling hot springs.
The Maori are the indigenous people of New Zealand and make up around 15% of the country’s population. The traditional Maori haka is performed by the national rugby team, the All Blacks, before their matches and if you want to learn more about Maori history, you can do so at museums in Wellington and Auckland.
The kiwi is a flightless bird with a long distinctive beak and there are five different species including the Great Spotted Kiwi and North Island Brown Kiwi. New Zealand is the only country where you will see one on the wild, but sightings are rare, so you may be better to head to one of the conservation projects set up to protect the birds, or alternatively visit a sanctuary or zoo.
New Zealand has beaches aplenty and the North Island’s famous 90-mile beach (it’s actually about 55 miles long) is one of the most sensational. Officially a highway, here you’ll enjoy some of the most breathtaking sunsets imaginable.
On a holiday to New Zealand there will be plenty of opportunities to sample the quality of the country’s wine. The sauvignon blanc grape was first planted here in the 1970s and today it is the most famous of New Zealand’s wines, with the majority being produced in the Marlborough region. Hawkes Bay, is the country’s second largest wine region and is known for its rich reds.
